Miserére mei Deus, * secúndum magnam misericórdiam tuam.
Have mercy on me O God, according to thy great mercy.

And according to the multitude of thy commiserations, take away mine iniquity.

A sacrifice to God is an afflicted spirit: a contrite and humbled heart O God thou wilt not despise.

Lord I suffer violence, answer for me. What shall I say, or what shall he answer me, whereas he himself hath done it?
Recogitábo tibi omnes annos meos * in amaritúdine ánimæ meæ.
I will recount to thee all my years in the bitterness of my soul.
Dómine si sic vívitur, et intálibus vita spíritus mei, † corrípies me, et vivificábis me. * Ecce in pace amaritúdo mea amaríssima.
Lord if man’s life be such, and the life of my spirit in such things, thou shalt chasten me, and shalt quicken me. Behold in peace is my bitterness most bitter.
Tu autem eruísti ánimam meam ut non períret: * projecísti post tergum tuum ómnia peccáta mea.
But thou hast delivered my soul that it should not perish, thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.
Quia non inférnus confitébitur tibi, † neque mors laudábit te: * non exspectábunt qui descéndunt in lacum, veritátem tuam.
Because hell shall not confess to thee, neither shall death praise thee: they that go down into the lake shall not expect thy truth.

The living, the living, he shall give confess to thee, as I also this day: the father shall make thy truth known to the children.

Sing ye to the Lord a new canticle: let his praise be in the church of the saints.

We beseech thee, O Lord, that thou wouldest vouchsafe to grant to the soul of thy servant N. (thine handmaid N.), the three day's (or week's, or month's) mind of whose burial we commemorate, the fellowship of thy Saints and elect, and to refresh her with the everlasting dew of thy mercy. Through our Lord Jesus Christ &c. ℟. Amen.

O God, the Lord of pardon: grant unto the soul of thy servant N. (thine handmaid N., or thy servants and handmaids), the year's mind of whose burial we commemorate, a place of refreshment, blissful peace, and clearness of light. Through our Lord &c. ℟. Amen.
